Lowe Zinfandel

New Release

2009 Lowe Zinfandel Released

The Lowe Zinfandel has recently been released, with this 2009 vintage the first released since the 2006.

Having made both Zinfandel and Pinot Noir for many years, I can say with some certainty that Zinfandel is harder to make than Pinot Noir.

The natural wine of Zinfandel is light, alcoholic and sweet.  The darker plum and Christmas cake style that the Californians take ownership of is a rare version.  The difference lies in how you treat the vineyard.

Ninja @ Tinja

Date:  Saturday November 19th 2011

Inspired by David’s Japanese friends and wine buyers and modelled on the fabulous Tokyo restaurant that hosted Tarantino’s Kill Bill movie (the restaurants real name is Nishi Gonpachi and they are a great supporter of Lowe Wines) .

The dinner will explore the synergies between our fine wines with delicacy as the hallmark and the detail and flavour of Japanese food.  Think Sashimi and pork, chicken and fish from the special Japanese barbecue.  Expect an interlude of good Saki, a great drink once explained and matched with food.

Where: Lowe Winery, Tinja Lane, Mudgee.
Price: $120.00
Lowe Wine Club Price: $96.00 (include 20% discount)

2010 Louee Nullo Mountain Chardonnay

"Mudgee winemaker David Lowe made this unique wine from early-picked grapes grown at 1100m above sea level...  The result is a tasty dry chardonnay at just 10.5 per cent alcohol.  Lowe compares it in style to Chablis... and there's certaintly an echo of this in the wine's delicious, light, minerally flavour and bone-dry finish. We might call it a Chablis style with Australian characteristics. 4 Stars."

Chris Shanahan, Canberra Times, 24 August 2011

2010 Louee Nullo Mountain Late Picked Riesling

"A gorgeous cool-climate riesling with sweetness and racy acidity giving a thrilling palate. Rich, complex honeysuckle aromas suggesting some botrytis; power and richness allied with delicacy in the mouth. Lovely acidity assists tightness and length. Now to 2020. 12 per cent alcohol. 94/100 Food: fish with hollandaise"

Huon Hooke, Sydney Morning Herald, 2 August 2011

2006 Lowe Merlot

"Certified organic, unfiltered, rustic and honest, this merlot is all about dark plum compote with cinnamon again, but five spice edges as well.  The fruit sweetness is spot on and the oak handling deft, its age just starting to bring on some leathery tones. It's very easy drinking and most desirable in its blackberry beauty.  Food: Sirloin with red wine jus."

Tony Love, Daily Telegraph, Febraury 2011

3 Trophies at the 2011 Mudgee Wine Show

We recently went to the awards presentation of the Mudgee Wine Show and were elated to receive three trophies.

The trophies, including the Best Organic Producer comprised:

Best White Wine (not including Chardonnay & Semillon)
2010 Louee Nullo Mountain Riesling

Most Outstanding Fortified Wine of the Show
Lowe Muscat

The Gil Wahlquist Trophy (Best Organic Producer)

The Best White Wine Trophy, other than Chardonnay and Semillon is particularly competitive, as it traditionally comes down to the region’s best rieslings.

We’re experiencing a bit of a renaissance with this variety in Mudgee, especially with some from the higher elevation vineyards like our Nullo Mountain site at 1100 metres.

Visit our website here to find out more about these wines.

Survey

Help Mudgee wines for a chance to win a case of wine

Thank you for enjoying our wines in the past.

We are part of a group of winemakers in Mudgee that is trying to understand what it is people like about Mudgee and our wines.  We’d really like your help in doing this.  You can help us out in two ways: by taking part in a survey or participating in a focus group in Sydney.

The survey can be completed on your computer in about 10-15 minutes and can be accessed by clicking on the link below:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LKRVRNG

At the first question, please select the answer ‘Just complete the survey’.

Anyone who qualifies and completes the full survey online will go into a prize draw with a chance to win a case of Mudgee wines worth at least $240.

All the research will be conducted by a professional research company, Dragoman Consulting.  If you have any questions about the research, you can contact their Principal Carolyn Childs on Carolyn@dragomanconsulting.com.au

We’d like to thank you in advance for your help. It will make a real difference to Mudgee and its winemakers.
