Use it or lose it!
Many wineries have a good database of people who have visited their cellar door and signed up in order to hear from the winemaker. This is a very valuable asset, and one that should be used.
The days of social media are upon us, and if you listen to Gary Vaynerchuk, it's only going to become more and more important.
These customers have given you their details in order for you to contact them and tell them your story. This is where you have the competitive advantage over the likes of Dan Murphys and Liquorland. These customers want to hear from you. They want to hear your story. It is this story that seperates you from other winemakers. It is therefore your brand proposition and your story that will set you apart.
Use twitter, facebook and e-newsletters and get into the social media aspect of your marketing. It is the one of the most cost effective tools at your disposal. If you don't contact your database of customers they'll forget who you are and why they signed up in the first place.
Cheers, David
 Gary Vaynerchuk showing the love
US wine man Gary Vaynerchuk was recently in Australia, tasting many of our wines, and more importantly meeting the winemakers and hearing their stories.

 Using Twitter for business
Another gem from Gary...
"If you're not using Twitter because you're in the camp that believes it's stupid, you're going to lose out. It doesn't matter if you think its stupid, it's free communication. That in and of itself has value, and you should take advantage of it." Gary Vaynerchuk, Crush It, 2009
